I DID SOME REAL FUCKING DRAFTING.
In case you don’t know, drafting is when one or more cyclist get behind another and use that first one to block some of the wind, making their riding a lot easier!
It sounds like a dick thing to do I guess, but a lot of teams do it so a rider and recover for a few miles.
Anyway.
A friend of a friend knew someone who was riding and suggested we ride together, so the girl (Ali) and I rode together and we were sort of a perfect match. About 50 some miles in we came behind 3 tall guys riding and I got close to the last one and IT WAS SO NICE. We were staying in the upper teens, lower 20s and my legs felt like I was going 10. The guys noticed and were really nice about it and were glad to have some extra company. There were five of us in a single file line, just flying down the road. And then suddenly we all knew we had to get diagonal, and we did. And then we all knew we had to get single file again. Man I wish I had my phone handy so I could’ve gotta a picture because it truly was a picture perfect moment.
It only last about 6-7 miles and that last mile they were pushing it so hard I didn’t think I could keep up much longer but fortunately we hit a rest stop. The guys said having us tag along pushed them to go faster which was a nice compliment.
Awesome.
